Big Changes to Utah Family Law Code

Big Changes to Utah Family Law Code

Beginning Sept 2024, there have been a massive changes to Utah’s family law code. Are you wondering what to do if you have a court order that refers to Utah Code 30-3-35, 30-3-35.1, or 30-3-35.2? Those sections no longer exist. What used to be Title 30 of the Utah Code has now been moved to Title 81 of the Utah Code.

But fear not. The Utah Legislature has created a handy chart showing where all the old laws have moved to. Click here for that. For example, what used to be Utah Code 30-3-35 (the minimum parent-time statute) is now found at Utah Code 81-9-302.

Remember just because Utah has renumbered its family law code does not mean that court orders entered under the old code somehow go away. Utah law provides that the law in effect when the Court entered an order in your case continues to control. You may however have to go the extra step of tracking down what the new code section is.
